Insane S&P 500 Futures ChartThis is a weekly chart of the difference between the front month contract and the next contract in front for S&P 500 Futures. (Don't worry, you don't need to understand this lingo to understand this post, but if you'd like more information about what front month contract and next contract in front mean, I added links at the bottom of this post. To put it simply, this chart allows us to extrapolate what the market is currently pricing in for the future). With that said, you may look at this chart and think it looks like just noise. You'd be right: it does look like noise, literally. Below is a diagram of actual sound waves. These sound waves are from a human voice. The sound waves of a human voice always encode a message. Likewise, this futures chart has encoded an insane message... To decode the message in this chart, let's first overlay a moving average. It doesn't matter too much which moving average you select, but I like to use the 20-period moving average because it's usually considered the mean for a given timeframe, and is the basis for the Bollinger bands. It will help us get rid of the extreme noise oscillations and allow us to just analyze the underlying price action. Below is a chart of the 20-week MA applied to the chart. It's hard to see the moving average, so let's now hide the noise and only show the moving average. The chart is much cleaner and looks a lot different. Does it look familiar at all? If we add the Fed Funds Rate it will... As you can now see, it appears that this S&P 500 futures chart is a leading indicator of the Fed Funds rate. However, we cannot go by looks alone and we should validate this hypothesis. We can do this by calculating correlation values. See the below chart. It appears that the correlation values (R, R-Squared and P values) generally seem to validate the conclusion that this S&P 500 futures chart is a leading indicator for the Fed Funds rate. Now here's where things get pretty insane... We can use this chart to extrapolate how high the Fed Funds rate may go. To get a refined look, we need to use a smaller moving average. Smaller moving averages can give us a more refined picture. To do this, I will drop the moving average down to the 5-week MA. Here's what that chart looks like... Look how high the 5-week MA is right now. Since June, it has exceeded the highs we saw in 2007, before the Great Recession when the Fed Funds rate was 5.25%. Right now the S&P 500 Futures chart appears to be pricing in a Fed Funds Rate of about 6%. That's considerably higher than the 3.5% terminal rate currently predicted by the Fed. With this said, the Fed is a free agent. It is not bound to hike to the level that the S&P 500 futures, as evidenced by this chart, may be pricing in. However, there's a cost to staying behind the curve: If the Fed fails to hike enough, inflation can spiral out of control with the expectations of further inflation amplifying the upward spiral. Companies raise prices in anticipation of higher inflation, workers demand higher and higher wages and the cycle begins to spiral out of control. Whereas, if the Fed continues to hike more and more aggressively to fight inflation at all costs, despite inflationary pressures being supply-related and not just demand-related, then it will destroy the flow of credit, and force massive deleveraging. Regardless of which path the Fed chooses, a major economic downturn is virtually unavoidable. The Art Of Do Nothing In TradingSociety… it conditions us to continually chase money, power, and a faster, wilder pace of life. Don’t slow down, and God forbid don’t pause, don’t reflect. Keep chasing or you fall behind. Over-schedule, overthink, overwork… this is the mantra. This is supposed to be what progress is. This is supposed to be what success is. Early, we learn to believe that this is absolutely normal, and in due time it becomes an addiction. We can’t sit still for a moment. Just like any addict, sitting still and doing nothing makes us feel unproductive. We feel we’re losing time, so we become agitated. In trading, patience and the ability to sit still is not only a virtue, it’s gold. Doing nothing can be one of the most productive things you can do. But as one would expect, being the addicts that we are, the moment the trading session opens, we feel the urge to become more productive all of a sudden. It’s like our minds will not let us enjoy doing nothing. We have to analyze, anticipate, worry, stress, tweak, especially when we’re not supposed to THE REASON… You have thoughts, right? Have you ever noticed that those thoughts tend to occur constantly? Have you ever noticed that some of those thoughts are visual?– you have memories (past), plans (future), imaginations (fantasy) just popping up like that in that space you call mind. Have you ever noticed that you have sensations all over your body–in it and on it; pleasant, unpleasant; some physical, some emotional? Have you ever noticed that all these experiences–thoughts and sensations–are continuous? You’re constantly pulled to mental states and body states, and, most of the time, you’re not aware that you are. You’re automatically in the stories, you believe them, and they urge you to act in a certain way. Which you do. Have you ever noticed that too? Then, next thing you know, you’re entering your trades at the wrong time; you’re exiting at the wrong time; you’re removing your stop-loss; you’re increasing or decreasing your position size… essentially, you’re going against your trading rules. This is a problem because this lack of awareness of your urges is costing you money. Trading is mostly a waiting game where you have to strike only when the time is right. If you want action that happens on your own terms, you’re in the wrong field. As a trader, you simply can’t afford to lack self-awareness. The market does not hurry, it moves at its own rhythm, on its own time. And self-awareness helps you cultivate patience and ‘do nothing’ as that happens. This ability to let the market do its thing saves you time and energy. It allows trades to come to you. It puts a stop to the chasing. It embraces the natural order and evolution of things. But best of all, this is a learnable skill. Absolutely! Let’s try a little exercise… THE DO-NOTHING TECHNIQUE Posture : Right where you are. When : While waiting for your entry signal; while waiting for your exit signal. Instructions : Just allow your mind to do its thing. It will generate stories and your body will generate feelings urging you to behave in a certain way. Your aim is to tolerate being there with yourself without trying to change or control anything. Just be there. Let your attention go anywhere it wants. You can fantasize about the perfect trade that yields you 1000% return; you can worry about missing out on an incredible opportunity; you can fear a loss; you can think about nothing or everything. But notice it. Notice where your mind goes. Tune in to that part of you that simply notices what you’re thinking and feeling instead of being automatically captured by those different states. That observing quality of your mind notices things in a neutral way. Notice how it’s not entangled or captured by the different stories and mental and bodily states. It simply observes. Pure, neutral, unencumbered… And that’s it. That’s the whole technique! Now, the do-nothing technique is more readily applicable for day traders since they have to be in front of their screen during the entire process, from trade selection to exit. But swing traders and position traders can also make use of it. In fact, you can use it anywhere, anytime, in and out of the market. This technique helps you tolerate whatever your body and mind do, which helps you overcome impatience. Impatience is you trying to force things to happen by thinking them more strongly or more often, without paying very much attention to where things actually are at. On the other hand, when you’re patient, you’re a keen observer of what’s happening. You notice when there’s an opportunity for something to happen, and when there isn’t yet. You notice that things develop through different cycles, and different things happen at different points in the cycle. In other words, you drop the need to create action on your own terms, you only respond to the action in a systematic way whenever it appears. Now, a few tips… Tip #1 –This Takes Practice It’s OK if you find it hard to do the do-nothing technique at first, but this is where you start from. By the way, Tom Basso (hedge fund manager interviewed in The New Market Wizards uses a very similar technique. Tip #2 –You Are Intentionally Doing Nothing You do not even have to approach this as a meditation technique, although you are free to do so. Notice what your attitudes are, and do not defend yourself against anything. Whether you are bored, happy, tired, excited, anxious, fearful, greedy, restless, you welcome it all. Your goal is to just observe yourself experiencing those different states. You cannot fail at this. Tip #3 –Notice The Urge To Take Action If you have a lot of noise in your head, you may find yourself wanting to take action in some form – entering (or exiting) before you even get a trade signal. As said, all that “noise” or mental rehearsal is not a problem and is not to be resisted. When you resist the noise, it only gets louder. But just this act of noticing the noise is extremely powerful because it allows you to see what’s going on in your mind and body as if from a third-person perspective. This begets objectivity and you can then say “ Okay, this thought, or feeling, or urge is not in line with my trading rules, so I will not act on them .” The Bottom Line The Do-Nothing technique is simply about interrupting your impulsive behaviors. It’s cultivating a calm acceptance that things in life can and will often happen in a different order than the one you could be holding in mind. Dollar Mid Year Macro UpdateIn January I reviewed the long-term technical and fundamental positions of the big four: Bonds, Equities, Commodities, and the Dollar. Those pieces are extensive in terms of both fundamental and technical outlooks and are linked below. January 2022 Observations: Bottom Line: It’s a range trade until it ain't no more. Impetus for a range break could be provided by the Federal Reserve increasing rates significantly faster/slower than current expectations or faster/slower than other central banks. Externally, a flight to safety resulting from disruption in emerging markets, armed conflict in Europe, or significant new domestic fiscal stimulus are all possibilities. When thinking about the Dollar its worth remembering that currency is a relative game. It's not only the domestic economy and monetary/fiscal policy, but those factors relative to the same factors inside our largest trading partners. -The 88.25 - 103.82 range is the most important chart feature. Moves inside the bounds of the range are noise, and while they may represent trading opportunities mean little in macro terms. Where is the market now? Since January, flight to quality, an ultra-aggressive Fed tightening cycle, conflict in the Ukraine and EM turmoil have all combined to produce a roughly 14% rally. In May, price thrust above the resistance along the top of the 102-104 zone. Over the last few weeks, the market narrative changed and profit taking ensued, resulting in the market moving back toward the breakout zone. The decline built a bull flag (easily seen on the daily perspective chart). Now the recent thrust higher suggests that the correction may be complete. -DXY has finally moved modestly above the top of the range that has contained price since 2014. -The breakout needed to be confirmed by a completed test of the broken range top but last week’s thrust higher strongly suggests a successful test. -Monthly MACD remains on a bullish trend signal. -Volatility (VOL) MAY finally be turning higher, but has yet to move above the downtrend that defined its trend since 2003. How far might a breakout carry? -The overbought line of the parallel trend channel that has defined the advance since 2011 intersects price in the 113-114 zone. -Horizontal resistance in the 121 zone is extremely strong and is nearly 12% higher, -Measured move targets generated by the length of the range and the Point and Figure counts suggest potential targets in the 118-120 zone. -Above 120-121, the 1985 165 resistance comes into play. A Note on Tactics: I have a preference toward systemizing discretionary behaviors. My approach to trading breakouts generally falls into this category. After a breakout (In any perspective) there are generally three main behaviors that I monitor for (and many variations on the themes) and three general trading reactions to those specific behaivors. I like to build trading plans around those three behaviors. Behavior 1: The market thrusts, closes above resistance and rallies without setting back to test the breakout zone (This appears to be what is unfolding now). This behavior is the most bullish of the three. Plan: Buy bullish thrusts from bull flags and corrective patterns in the lower perspective time frames. Behavior 2: The market sets back to the top of the broken range, preferably in a corrective manner and then rallies. Plan: Buy thrust out of the lower time perspective pattern that develops on a decline to test the breakout. Behavior 3) The market fails and falls back into the range. Plan: Sell breaks of the bear flags that develop as the market breaks lower. Failed breakouts often produce significant reversals. Sometimes the behaivors are muddled and no clear pattern develops. If that occurs, no worries… find another market to trade. Triple Screen: A bit of a mess in that the weekly momentum is so overbought, but often when a market breaks out from a long-term range overbought momentum is actually a sign of strength. Importantly, the trend in price is ALWAYS more important than the state of momentum. Monthly: Price is clearly trending higher. MACD is on a long term buy signal and trending higher. The momentum in this perspective is higher both in terms of momentum and price. Weekly: Price trend is clearly higher and momentum is overbought and is attempting to turn lower. With monthly momentum higher, pullbacks in this perspective can be used to enter monthly perspective/macro positions. Daily: The short term overbought has been relieved. The pullback from the high has been entirely consistent with corrective behavior. Fundamentally: If you believe that DXY will turn lower, you must simultaneously believe that the Euro is ready to turn higher as it has an almost 60% weight in the index. I suspect, given Europe's challenges, that a wave of fiscal stimulus to offset the winter energy shock will serve to further weaken the currency. Less farfetched is the idea that JY (14% weight) might strengthen somewhat. But it’s much smaller weight will produce far less DXY gravity than the Euro. The same change of narrative that produced the rally in risk assets has pressured DXY. Markets seem to believe that the easing of inflaiton (a slower rate of change) means that the Fed is nearing the end of its tightening campaign and, perhaps will begin cutting rates in reaction to a slowing economy. But the easing of financial conditions created by the rallies in risk assets and still strong employment gives the Fed plenty of room to continue increasing rates. I think they have been abundantly clear that they are determined to bring inflaiton under control, even in the face of a much weaker economy. In my mind, Powell needs to decide if his legacy is Arthur Burns or Paul Volker. My guess is he chooses Volker. Volker = stronger DXY. Fiscal impulse in the US should remain negative. The prospect of a split congress significantly decreases the likelihood of substantive new spending bills. In relative terms the US Fed remains one of the most aggressive tighteners on the planet. The combination of rate increases and quantitative tightening create a powerful bullish relative mix for DXY. Many analysts suggest that weakness in DXY has created a rally in risk assets. I believe they have causation backwards. During periods when global risk assets struggle, weakness in risk assets and flight to quality creates flows into DXY. When risk assets do better, as they have over the last few weeks, the DXY weakens as flows reverse to risk. If/when risk assets begin to decline again, flows will again become DXY favorable. Conclusion: -The market appears to be breaking out of the broad range that has contained price since 2014. -Monthly price and momentum trends are clearly higher. -VOL has yet to break above its long-term downtrend but I suspect that is coming soon. A break above the downtrend would imply a long cycle of higher price. - I have built my second half trading plan around the three behaviors covered above, but I have a strong preference for bullish entries. -Without a Fed pivot, which I view as highly unlikely, fundamentals continue to strongly favor DXY strength. -Fresh weakness in risk assets will buttress the bullish thesis. Finally, in my opinion, succesfull trading requires strong opinions that are loosely held. I wake up each day questioning my positioning and thesis, because… things change. Not a silver lining.Silver is special as it is both an industrial and precious metal. So, let’s look at Silver from both points of view to identify what seems to be dimming the shine on this metal. As a precious metal, we can compare silver with the dollar and yield as both affect the demand for precious metals. Dollar and silver are generally negatively correlated, with a stronger dollar leading to weaker silver. In the chart below, we see this relationship at play until the start of February 2022, when it started to weaken. It seems the effect of a rapidly strengthening dollar has not been reflected in the prices of silver and we expect this gap to close, resulting in lower silver prices. The 10-year yield also provides us with a reference to understand where silver might trade at. A high yield environment is often considered headwind for precious metals as investors prefer holding yield-generating assets in such periods. In the chart below, we see can observe the roughly negative relationship between yields and silver, with periods of lower rates showing higher silver prices and vice versa. With the Federal Reserve indicating that they are still not done with the rate hikes to combat inflation, silver might take a dent in upcoming rate hikes. Secondly, we can look at business and consumer confidence to gauge the potential demand for silver as an industrial metal. Generally, higher business and consumer confidence indicate expansionary periods, which translate to higher demand for industrial metals. With the University of Michigan consumer confidence index at a low and United States Business Confidence Index turning lower, such negative outlook will slow demand for silver as a form of industrial metal, potentially adding resistance to prices. On the technical front, silver is sitting right on the 19-dollar level, which has acted as a key support & resistance level over the past 10 years. An attempt to breach this level a few weeks ago was rejected and prices are now back to retest this support. On a shorter timeframe, we also see silver in a descending channel pattern indicating a downwards continuation pattern. With the dollar strengthening, higher yields, and downbeat business and consumer confidence, the macro backdrop for silver does not look rosy. Overlaying that with the bearish technical price action, we think Silver is likely to struggle. Entry at 18.960, stops at 20.160. Targets at 16.620. What is causing a 14% decline in MBS?What is a Mortgage Backed Security? A Mortgage Backed Security are shares of a Special Purpose Entity (SPE) that holds mortgages. Whenever someone buys a home they usually purchase it with a mortgage. Investment Banks (underwriters) put up the capital and create a mortgage agreement with the home owner. Banks don’t want to carry the risk of mortgages defaulting so they create a corporation for offloading the risk. The corporation is called a Special Purpose Equity (SPE). The role of an SPE is to issue shares of the corporation for investors to buy called Mortgage Backed Securities (MBS). Investors in the Mortgage Backed Securities take on the risk for a dividend/yield. What is causing a 14% decline in MBS? Back in 2007-2009 was the global financial crisis (GFC) as a result of mis-management of MBS industry that sent the world economies in recession and markets declined. The problem started much earlier leading up to 2005 as new homes were being built and sold at highest levels 1972. Lenders were essentially giving special promotional rates to any buyers with a pulse called sub-prime. When these sub-prime mortgages began to default it caused a cascading effect to the entire housing industry. Today is different, but we may only see the tip of the iceberg. The Fed began buying and holding MBS after the decline in 2008 and currently holds in the tune of 2.7 Trillion in MBS. The Fed has started a cycle of tightening and in September will begin unloading their MBS. New housing starts are down as a result of higher interest rates rising and inflation in commodities like lumber. Volatility in lumber prices were the first to indicate problems over the last 2 years as prices of lumber fluctuated drastically because of problems with supply and demand.

GDX suffering a low periodGDX, the gold miners ETF which once had a lot of potential is now in the doldrums. Having hit 41 in April 2022, it had almost halved within 4 months. Recently, an attempt to consolidate and rebound is seeing a lot of challenges. First, the Gold prices are in a bear trend, secondly, rising interest rates hurt the miners, third, the weak equities market also affect the gold miners. The GDX weekly chart has in the past couple of weeks attempted a rebound, but the past week pretty much wiped all gains out. This move mellowed the technical indicators and it is less than ideal to be a tad bullish at all. The daily chart obviously has technically bearish indicators crossing down with momentum. Overall, very likely to take out the last low. Nothing much except the obvious... bearish

Just like any addict, sitting still and doing nothing makes us feel unproductive. We feel we’re losing time, so we become agitated. In trading, patience and the ability to sit still is not only a virtue, it’s gold. Doing nothing can be one of the most productive things you can do. But as one would expect, being the addicts that we are, the moment the trading session opens, we feel the urge to become more productive all of a sudden. It’s like our minds will not let us enjoy doing nothing. We have to analyze, anticipate, worry, stress, tweak, especially when we’re not supposed to THE REASON… You have thoughts, right? Have you ever noticed that those thoughts tend to occur constantly? Have you ever noticed that some of those thoughts are visual?– you have memories (past), plans (future), imaginations (fantasy) just popping up like that in that space you call mind. Have you ever noticed that you have sensations all over your body–in it and on it; pleasant, unpleasant; some physical, some emotional? Have you ever noticed that all these experiences–thoughts and sensations–are continuous? You’re constantly pulled to mental states and body states, and, most of the time, you’re not aware that you are. You’re automatically in the stories, you believe them, and they urge you to act in a certain way. Which you do. Have you ever noticed that too? Then, next thing you know, you’re entering your trades at the wrong time; you’re exiting at the wrong time; you’re removing your stop-loss; you’re increasing or decreasing your position size… essentially, you’re going against your trading rules. This is a problem because this lack of awareness of your urges is costing you money. Trading is mostly a waiting game where you have to strike only when the time is right. If you want action that happens on your own terms, you’re in the wrong field. As a trader, you simply can’t afford to lack self-awareness. The market does not hurry, it moves at its own rhythm, on its own time. And self-awareness helps you cultivate patience and ‘do nothing’ as that happens. This ability to let the market do its thing saves you time and energy. It allows trades to come to you. It puts a stop to the chasing. It embraces the natural order and evolution of things. But best of all, this is a learnable skill. Absolutely! Let’s try a little exercise… THE DO-NOTHING TECHNIQUE Posture : Right where you are. When : While waiting for your entry signal; while waiting for your exit signal. Instructions : Just allow your mind to do its thing. It will generate stories and your body will generate feelings urging you to behave in a certain way. Your aim is to tolerate being there with yourself without trying to change or control anything. Just be there. Let your attention go anywhere it wants. You can fantasize about the perfect trade that yields you 1000% return; you can worry about missing out on an incredible opportunity; you can fear a loss; you can think about nothing or everything. But notice it. Notice where your mind goes. Tune in to that part of you that simply notices what you’re thinking and feeling instead of being automatically captured by those different states. That observing quality of your mind notices things in a neutral way. Notice how it’s not entangled or captured by the different stories and mental and bodily states. It simply observes. Pure, neutral, unencumbered… And that’s it. That’s the whole technique! Now, the do-nothing technique is more readily applicable for day traders since they have to be in front of their screen during the entire process, from trade selection to exit. But swing traders and position traders can also make use of it. In fact, you can use it anywhere, anytime, in and out of the market. This technique helps you tolerate whatever your body and mind do, which helps you overcome impatience. Impatience is you trying to force things to happen by thinking them more strongly or more often, without paying very much attention to where things actually are at. On the other hand, when you’re patient, you’re a keen observer of what’s happening. You notice when there’s an opportunity for something to happen, and when there isn’t yet. You notice that things develop through different cycles, and different things happen at different points in the cycle. In other words, you drop the need to create action on your own terms, you only respond to the action in a systematic way whenever it appears. Now, a few tips… Tip #1 –This Takes Practice It’s OK if you find it hard to do the do-nothing technique at first, but this is where you start from. By the way, Tom Basso (hedge fund manager interviewed in The New Market Wizards uses a very similar technique. Tip #2 –You Are Intentionally Doing Nothing You do not even have to approach this as a meditation technique, although you are free to do so. Notice what your attitudes are, and do not defend yourself against anything. Whether you are bored, happy, tired, excited, anxious, fearful, greedy, restless, you welcome it all. Your goal is to just observe yourself experiencing those different states. You cannot fail at this. Tip #3 –Notice The Urge To Take Action If you have a lot of noise in your head, you may find yourself wanting to take action in some form – entering (or exiting) before you even get a trade signal. As said, all that “noise” or mental rehearsal is not a problem and is not to be resisted. When you resist the noise, it only gets louder. But just this act of noticing the noise is extremely powerful because it allows you to see what’s going on in your mind and body as if from a third-person perspective. This begets objectivity and you can then say “ Okay, this thought, or feeling, or urge is not in line with my trading rules, so I will not act on them .” The Bottom Line The Do-Nothing technique is simply about interrupting your impulsive behaviors. It’s cultivating a calm acceptance that things in life can and will often happen in a different order than the one you could be holding in mind. Daytime job - Math Teacher. 👩‍🏫 In today's analysis, we're taking a look at the Dunning Kruger Effect. Dunning-Kruger effect, in psychology, is a cognitive bias whereby people with limited knowledge or competence (in a given intellectual or social domain) greatly overestimate their own knowledge or competence in that domain relative to objective criteria or to the performance of their peers or of people in general. This happens in trading all the time. In fact, we probably all started there if we're being honest. So - What causes the Dunning-Kruger effect? Confidence is so highly prized that many people would rather pretend to be smart or skilled than risk looking inadequate and losing face. Even smart people can be affected by the Dunning-Kruger effect because having intelligence isn’t the same thing as learning and developing a specific skill. Many individuals mistakenly believe that their experience and skills in one particular area are transferable to another. Many people would describe themselves as above average in intelligence, humor, and a variety of skills. They can’t accurately judge their own competence, because they lack metacognition, or the ability to step back and examine oneself objectively. In fact, those who are the least skilled are also the most likely to overestimate their abilities. This also relates to their ability to judge how well they are doing their work, hobbies, etc. The Dunning-Kruger effect results in what’s known as a double curse : Not only do people perform poorly, but they are not self-aware enough to judge themselves accurately—and are thus unlikely to learn and grow. So how can we prevent ourselves from falling into this trap? Here's a few things to keep in mind: To avoid falling prey to the Dunning-Kruger effect, you should honestly and routinely question your knowledge base and the conclusions you draw, rather than blindly accepting them. As David Dunning proposes, people can be their own devil’s advocates, by challenging themselves to probe how they might possibly be wrong. Individuals could also escape the trap by seeking others whose expertise can help cover their own blind spots, such as turning to a colleague or friend for advice or constructive criticism. Continuing to study a specific subject will also bring one’s capacity into a clearer focus. Practice these habits to ultimately escape the double curse: - Continuous learning. This will keep your mindset open to new possibilities, whilst increasing your knowledge over time. - Pay attention to who's talking about what. KOG - JACKSON HOLE Part 1Jackson Hole Symposium: What is the Jackson Hole Symposium? The Jackson Hole symposium (Economic Policy Symposium) is held in Jackson Hole, Wyoming USA. It is an event attended by the worlds top financial professionals including ministers, bankers and academics. It is a closed event so no press are allowed access to the meetings or talks. Instead, press conferences are held throughout the event where any comments from financial professionals usually move the markets and cause extreme volatility. This is not the usual analysis we provide. Instead, what we wanted to show you is the last 3-4yrs of market data illustrated on the charts, giving you an idea of what this event can do and cause on the markets. In this example, on Gold. So, lets start with last year, 2021. We can see the price was at a similar price point to where we are today, just slightly higher at around the 1780 level. The early sessions were quiet, however, after a retest of the low look at the aggressive move to the upside! Price started at 1780 and the move completed at 1836. 500+ pip move in a matter of days. Lets look at the top right chart, 2020. Again, look at the choppy price action, the whipsaw up and down, then the rested of the low before an aggressive move to the upside. Price started at 1904 and the move completed at 1994. 900pip movement in a matter of days. Now 2019, a slow start in the early sessions, all of a sudden, a rested on the low and then another aggressive move to the upside. Price started at 1491 and completed the move 1557. Over 500pip movement in a matter of days! What we’re trying to show you here is that its going to be a very difficult event to trade for new traders. Its going to be choppy, its going to be volatile, its going to whipsaw and its likely to move. If you’re caught the wrong side of it its going to kill your account. Best practice here is to let the market make the moves it wants to, wait for the price to settle in whatever level they want to drive it to, once this has happened then look for the setup to get in to the trade. How to control your trading mentality 🧠Mental training helps individuals to improve their performance by preparing their emotions and mind. Focus, confidence, and motivations are important factors of mental factors. According to a study done at Brown University, it may be possible to train your brain’s automatic emotional responses. It may improve your experience in trading. To be a mentally tough trader, one should tap into his emotional and mental resources that keep his mind in check at its peak as often and consistently as possible. One may make wrong decisions when he/she is unstable emotionally and mentally. Stop 🚫 It does not matter how you good or how experienced you are in trading. If you don't see the whole picture 100%, your trading experience would end unsuccessfully. What happens when you keep hitting that stop loss and losing money? Your body starts to release cortisol, the primary stress hormone, which increases blood sugar in the bloodstream. When cortisol level is more than normal, you will have high blood pressure, will become agitated, irritated and start to sweat. You have to STOP! You will only lose more if you continue to trade. Take a breath and take a step back. When you come back, you will have a better perspective and a better picture of how to trade. Accept ✅ Every trader has their own pace of learning and trading. Don't compare yourself to others. Your friend may have started earlier and made more than you. You just have to ACCEPT! Trading is not about competition. You cannot start trading with a competing mentality. Don’t take a higher risk than you can handle. If you have only $100, just accept that you have $100. 100 is a start of a bigger number. Don’t follow social media group who claims how much they made and how easy it is. Your brain may unconsciously make competitive decisions. Make a plan 📝 You have to make a plan. You may have made a plan and failed. Let me tell you what worked for me. Like many traders, I lost in the beginning. The more you lose money while trading, the more you focus on the money not on the trading. When you focus on money, you may try to find money by different ways; borrowing, stealing and some in easy ways. To make a plan to trading, you have to see the whole picture; the risk, the situation it is creating for you, your family and finance and your future. Summary It is important to stop when you are overwhelmed and take a step back. When come back you will see how much difference it makes when you are calm and in control of your emotions and mind. Accepting that you have your own pace of learning and trading is also crucial in trading. Last but not least, to make a plan consider the risk and the situation. Be prepared and be in control of your emotions. Now you know when to stop and accept. You are ready to start your trading journey. Don't put at risk what you already built. Take it slow at your own pace.

Advanced limit order swing trading strategySo if you haven't read my other writeups first, you probably should. Non-speculative limit orders are the basis for this trading style. Now, the idea behind this system is simple. You're using a script, EA or bot to create dozens of limit orders very quickly, with predetermined stop losses and take profits, to capture swings against active trends. See a trend. Any trend. Are the candles going up? It's an uptrend. Are they going down? Downtrend. In this trend, you want to identify momentum candles that have a wick. I'm not talking about hammers, I'm talking about candles that close with momentum in the direction of the trend, but just happen to have a wick that's at least 5% the length of the candle body. When you see this, you're going to place a limit order cluster above (or below) that wick to counter-trend it. As the trend continues upward, you might see more wicks like this, and you're going to do it again. And again. And again. The pic above shows an 18 pip range of limit orders getting filled, with limit order grids being stacked on top of wicks. This can definitely be considered Martingale-like, so you obviously want to be careful with how much you're risking. If 12 orders are each valued at 0.01, and your stop loss and take profits are both set to 30 pips, then that means each individual limit order is worth $3 and totals to $36 profit or loss. Your take profit structure can be greater or lower than the 1:1 ratio, as this is just an example and it's something you would have to backtest and figure out for yourself. However, stacking grids to catch a swing can be highly rewarding. It's possible every ticket of your lowest grid hits its SL (although I'd say pretty unlikely as long as you're spacing is good for the currency pair), but every grid you stack up on top of that will greatly increase your odds of winning. i.imgur.com i.imgur.com This is how it would look in practice. The limit orders are based off of these wicks: i.imgur.com Every time I see a wick in that uptrend, I'm selling into it. My limit orders start 5 pips away from the top of the wick. I click "Sell limits" and I'm ready to go. I'll leave a link to my EA (for MT5) at the bottom. I cannot stress enough that you would have to really backtest this and get comfortable with whatever currency pair or asset you're trying to trade, because it's important. And always bet small when you do this! This is about trying to make money regardless of market conditions, not trying to bet big and win big. If you have a $1000 account, maybe risk $20 per grid (grid meaning every individual cluster of limit orders). If you are selling the resistance of the range, your stop loss should strictly lie above the highest point of resistance. As you can see, these stop placement techniques are very simple. R:R Trading System FrameworkFirst off, huge thanks to @fikira! He was able to adapt what I built to work much more efficiently, allowing for more strategies to be used simultaneously. Simply put, I could not have gotten to this point without you. Thanks for what you do for the TV community. Second, I am fairly new to pinescript writing, so I welcome criticism, thoughtful input and improvement suggestions. I would love to grow this concept into something even better, if possible. So please let me know if you have any ideas for improvement. However I do juggle a lot of different things outside of TV, so implementations may be delayed. I have decided, at this time, not to add alerts. First, because I feel most people looking to adapt this framework can add their own pretty easily. Also, given how customized the framework is currently, while also attempting to account for all the possible ways in which people may want alerts to function after they customize it, it seems best to leave them out as it doesn't exactly fit the idea of a framework. For best viewing, I recommend hovering over the script's name > ... > Visual order > Bring to front. Also I found hollow candles with mono-toned colors (like pictured) are more visually appealing for me personally. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND USING WITH BAR REPLAY TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE FRAMEWORK'S FUNCTIONALITY. ▶️ WHAT THIS FRAMEWORK IS - A huge collection of concepts and capabilities for those trying to better understand, learn, or teach pinescript. - A system designed to showcase Risk:Reward concepts more holistically by providing all of the most popular components of retail trading to include backtesting, trade visual plotting, position tracking, market condition shifts, and useful info while positioned to help highlight changes in your risk:reward based decision-making processes. - A system that can showcase individual strategies regardless of trade direction, allowing you to develop hedging strategies without having multiple indicators that do not correlate with each other. - Designed around the idea that you trade less numbers of assets but manage your positions and risk based on multiple concurrently running strategies to manage your risk exposure and reward potential. - An attempt to combine all the things you need to execute with an active trading management style. - A framework that uses backtested results (in this case the number of averaged bars it takes to hit key levels) in real-time to inform your risk:reward decision-making while in-trade (in this case in your Trade Tracking Table using dynamic color to show how you might be early, on-time, or late compared to the average amount of backtested time it normally takes to hit that specific key level). ▶️ WHAT THIS FRAMEWORK IS NOT - A complete trading product. It is a FRAMEWORK for you to generate ideas of your own and fairly easily implement your own triggering conditions in the appropriate sections of the script. ▶️ USE CASES - If you decide you like the Stop, Target, Trailing Stop, and Risk:Reward components as-is, then just understanding how to plug in your Entry and Bullish / Bearish conditions (Triangles) and adjust the input texts to match your custom naming will be all you need to make it your own! - If you want to adapt certain components, then this system gives you a great starting point to adapt your different concepts and ideas from. ▶️ SYSTEM COMPONENTS - Each of the system's components are described via tooltips both in the input menu and in the tables' cells. - Each label on the chart displays the corresponding price at those triggered conditions on hover with tooltips. - The Trailing Stop only becomes active once it is above the Entry Price for that trade, and brightens to show it is active. The STOP line (right of price) moves once it takes over for the Entry Stop representing the level of the Trailing Stop at that time for that trade. - The Lines / Labels to the right of price will brighten once price is above for Longs or below for Shorts. The Trade Tracking Table cells will add ☑️ once price is above for Longs or below for Shorts. - The brighter boxes on the chart show the trades that occurred based on your criteria and are color coded for all components of each trade type to ensure your references are consistent. (Defaults are TV built-in strategies) - The lighter boxes on the chart show the highest and lowest price levels reached during those trades, to highlight areas where improvements can be made or additional considerations can be accounted for by either adjusting Entry triggers or Bullish / Bearish triggers. - Default Green and Red Triangles (Bullish / Bearish) default to having the same triggering condition as the Entry it corresponds to. This is to highlight either a pyramiding concept, early exit, or you can change to account for other things occurring during your trades which could help you with Stop and Target management/considerations. TradingView and many of its community members have done a lot for me, so this is my attempt to give back.

Bjorgum Double Tap█   OVERVIEW Double Tap is a pattern recognition script aimed at detecting Double Tops and Double Bottoms. Double Tap can be applied to the broker emulator to observe historical results, run as a trading bot for live trade alerts in real time with entry signals, take profit, and stop orders, or to simply detect patterns. █   CONCEPTS How Is A Pattern Defined? Doubles are technical formations that are both reversal patterns and breakout patterns. These formations typically have a distinctive “M” or a “W” shape with price action breaking beyond the neckline formed by the center of the pattern. They can be recognized when a ​pivot fails to break when tested for a second time and the retracement that follows breaks beyond the key level opposite. This can trap entrants that were playing in the direction of the prior trend. Entries are made on the breakout with a target projected beyond the neckline equal to the height of the pattern. Pattern Recognition Patterns are recognized through the use of ​zig-zag; a method of filtering price action by connecting swing highs and lows in an alternating fashion to establish trend, ​support and resistance, or derive shapes from price action. The script looks for the highest or lowest point in a given number of bars and updates a list with the values as they form. If the levels are exceeded, the values are updated. If the direction changes and a new significant point is made, a new point is added to the list and the process starts again. Meanwhile, we scan the list of values looking for the distinctive shape to form as previously described. █   STRATEGY RESULTS Back Testing Historical back testing is the most common method to test a strategy due in part to the general ease of gathering quick results. The underlying theory is that any strategy that worked well in the past is likely to work well in the future, and conversely, any strategy that performed poorly in the past is likely to perform poorly in the future. It is easy to poke holes in this theory, however, as for one to accept it as gospel, one would have to assume that future results will match what has come to pass. The randomness of markets may see to it otherwise, so it is important to scrutinize results. Some commonly used methods are to compare to other markets or benchmarks, perform statistical analysis on the results over many iterations and on differing datasets, walk-forward testing, out-of-sample analysis, or a variety of other techniques. There are many ways to interpret the results, so it is important to do research and gain knowledge in the field prior to taking meaningful conclusions from them. 👉  In short, it would be naive to place trust in one good backtest and expect positive results to continue. For this reason, results have been omitted from this publication. Repainting Repainting is simply the difference in behaviour of a strategy in real time vs the results calculated on the historical dataset. The strategy, by default, will wait for confirmed signals and is thus designed to not repaint. Waiting for bar close for entires aligns results in the real time data feed to those calculated on historical bars, which contain far less data. By doing this we align the behaviour of the strategy on the 2 data types, which brings significance to the calculated results. To override this behaviour and introduce repainting one can select "Recalculate on every tick" from the properties tab. It is important to note that by doing this alerts may not align with results seen in the strategy tester when the chart is reloaded, and thus to do so is to forgo backtesting and restricts a strategy to forward testing only. 👉  It is possible to use this script as an indicator as opposed to a full strategy by disabling "Use Strategy" in the "Inputs" tab. Basic alerts for detection will be sent when patterns are detected as opposed to complex order syntax. For alerts mid-bar enable "Recalculate on every tick" , and for confirmed signals ensure it is disabled. █   EXIT ORDERS Limit and Stop Orders By default, the strategy will place a stop loss at the invalidation point of the pattern. This point is beyond the pattern high in the case of Double Tops, or beneath the pattern low in the case of Double Bottoms. The target or take profit point is an equal-legs measurement, or 100% of the pattern height in the direction of the pattern bias. Both the stop and the limit level can be adjusted from the user menu as a percentage of the pattern height. Trailing Stops Optional from the menu is the implementation of an ATR based trailing stop. The trailing stop is designed to begin when the target projection is reached. From there, the script looks back a user-defined number of bars for the highest or lowest point +/- the ATR value. For tighter stops the user can look back a lesser number of bars, or decrease the ATR multiple. When using either Alertatron or Trading Connector, each change in the trail value will trigger an alert to update the stop order on the exchange to reflect the new trail price. This reduces latency and slippage that can occur when relying on alerts only as real exchange orders fill faster and remain in place in the event of a disruption in communication between your strategy and the exchange, which ensures a higher level of safety. 👉  It is important to note that in the case the trailing stop is enabled, limit orders are excluded from the exit criteria. Rather, the point in time that the limit value is exceeded is the point that the trail begins. As such, this method will exit by stop loss only. █   ALERTS Five Built-in 3rd Party Destinations The following are five options for delivering alerts from Double Tap to live trade execution via third party ​API solutions or chat bots to share your trades on social media. These destinations can be selected from the input menu and alert syntax will automatically configure in alerts appropriately to manage trades. Custom JSON JSON, or JavaScript Object Notation, is a readable format for structuring data. It is used primarily to transmit data between a server and a web application. In regards to this script, this may be a custom intermediary web application designed to catch alerts and interface with an exchange ​API. The JSON message is a trade map for an application to read equipped with where its been, where its going, targets, stops, quantity; a full diagnostic of the current state and its previous state. A web application could be configured to follow the messages sent in this format and conduct trades in sync with alerts running on the TV server. Select Discord from the 3rd party drop down menu and place your chat bot URL in the alert message window when configuring alerts. 👉  For further information regarding alert setup, refer to the platform specific instructions given by the chosen third party provider. █   IMPORTANT NOTES Setting Alerts For alert messages to be properly delivered on order fills it is necessary to place the following placeholder in the alert message box when creating an alert. {{strategy.order.alert_message}} This placeholder will auto-populate the alert message with the appropriate syntax that is designated for the 3rd party selected in the user menu. Order Sizing and Commissions The values that are sent in alert messages are populated from live metrics calculated by the strategy. This means that the actual values in the "Properties" tab are used and must be set by the user. The initial capital, order size, commission, etc. are all used in the calculations, so it is important to set these prior to executing live trades. Be sure to set the commission to the values used by the exchange as well. 👉  It is important to understand that the calculations on the account size take place from the beginning of the price history of the strategy. This means that if historical results have inflated or depleted the account size from the beginning of trade history until now, the values sent in alerts will reflect the calculated size based on the inputs in the "Properties" tab. To start fresh, the user must set the date in the "Inputs" tab to the current date as to remove trades from the trade history. Failure to follow this instruction can result in an unexpected order size being sent in the alert. █   FOR PINECODERS  • With the recent introduction of matrices in Pine, the script utilizes a matrix to track ​pivot points with the bars they occurred on, while tracking if that ​pivot has been traded against to prevent duplicate detections after a trade is exited.  • Alert messages are populated with placeholders ; capability that previously was only possible in alertcondition() , but has recently been extended to `strategy.*()` functions for use in the `alert_message` argument. This allows delivery of live trade values to populate in strategy alert messages.  • New arguments have been added to strategy.exit() , which allow differentiated messages to be sent based on whether the exit occurred at the stop or the limit. Fourier Extrapolator of Price w/ Projection Forecast [Loxx]Due to popular demand, I'm pusblishing Fourier Extrapolator of Price w/ Projection Forecast.. As stated in it's twin indicator, this one is also multi-harmonic (or multi-tone) trigonometric model of a price series xi, i=1..n, is given by: xi = m + Sum( a*Cos(w*i) + b*Sin(w*i), h=1..H ) Where: xi - past price at i-th bar, total n past prices; m - bias; a and b - scaling coefficients of harmonics; w - frequency of a harmonic ; h - harmonic number; H - total number of fitted harmonics. Fitting this model means finding m, a, b, and w that make the modeled values to be close to real values. Finding the harmonic frequencies w is the most difficult part of fitting a trigonometric model. In the case of a Fourier series, these frequencies are set at 2*pi*h/n. But, the Fourier series extrapolation means simply repeating the n past prices into the future. This indicator uses the Quinn-Fernandes algorithm to find the harmonic frequencies. It fits harmonics of the trigonometric series one by one until the specified total number of harmonics H is reached. VisibleChart█   OVERVIEW This library is a Pine programmer’s tool containing functions that return values calculated from the range of visible bars on the chart. This is now possible in Pine Script™ thanks to the recently-released chart.left_visible_bar_time and chart.right_visible_bar_time built-ins, which return the opening time of the leftmost and rightmost bars on the chart. These values update as traders scroll or zoom their charts, which gives way to a class of indicators that can dynamically recalculate and draw visuals on visible bars only, as users scroll or zoom their charts. We hope this library's functions help you make the most of the world of possibilities these new built-ins provide for Pine scripts. For an example of a script using this library, have a look at the Chart ​VWAP indicator. █   CONCEPTS Chart properties The new chart.left_visible_bar_time and chart.right_visible_bar_time variables return the opening time of the leftmost and rightmost bars on the chart. They are only two of many new built-ins in the `chart.*` namespace. See this blog post for more information, or look up them up by typing "chart." in the Pine Script™ Reference Manual . Dynamic recalculation of scripts on visible bars Any script using chart.left_visible_bar_time or chart.right_visible_bar_time acquires a unique property, which triggers its recalculation when traders scroll or zoom their charts in such a way that the range of visible bars on the chart changes. This library's functions use the two recent built-ins to derive various values from the range of visible bars. Designing your scripts for dynamic recalculation For the library's functions to work correctly, they must be called on every bar. For reliable results, assign their results to global variables and then use the variables locally where needed — not the raw function calls. Some functions like `barIsVisible()` or `open()` will return a value starting on the leftmost visible bar. Others such as `high()` or `low()` will also return a value starting on the leftmost visible bar, but their correct value can only be known on the rightmost visible bar, after all visible bars have been analyzed by the script. You can plot values as the script executes on visible bars, but efficient code will, when possible, create resource-intensive labels, lines or tables only once in the global ​scope using var , and then use the setter functions to modify their properties on the last bar only. The example code included in this library uses this method. Keep in mind that when your script uses chart.left_visible_bar_time or chart.right_visible_bar_time , your script will recalculate on all bars each time the user scrolls or zooms their chart. To provide script users with the best experience you should strive to keep calculations to a minimum and use efficient code so that traders are not always waiting for your script to recalculate every time they scroll or zoom their chart. Another aspect to consider is the fact that the rightmost visible bar will not always be the last bar in the dataset. When script users scroll back in time, a large portion of the time series the script calculates on may be situated after the rightmost visible bar. We can never assume the rightmost visible bar is also the last bar of the time series. Time█   OVERVIEW This library is a Pine Script™ programmer’s tool containing a variety of time related functions to calculate or measure time, or format time into string variables. █   CONCEPTS `formattedTime()`, `formattedDate()` and `formattedDay()` Pine Script™, like many other programming languages, uses timestamps in UNIX format, expressed as the number of milliseconds elapsed since 00:00:00 UTC, 1 January 1970. These three functions convert a UNIX timestamp to a formatted string for human consumption. Pine Script™ documentation does not yet contain complete specifications on these codes, but in the meantime you can find some information in the The Java™ Tutorials and in Java documentation of its MessageFormat class . Note that str.format() implements only a subset of the MessageFormat features in Java. `secondsSince()` The introduction of varip variables in Pine Script™ has made it possible to track the time for which a condition is true when a script is executing on a realtime bar. One obvious use case that comes to mind is to enable trades to exit only when the exit condition has been true for a period of time, whether that period is shorter that the chart's timeframe, or spans across multiple realtime bars. For more information on this function and varip please see our Using `varip` variables publication. `timeFrom( )` When plotting lines , boxes , and labels one often needs to calculate an offset for past or future end points relative to the time a condition or point occurs in history. Using xloc.bar_index is often the easiest solution, but some situations require the use of xloc.bar_time . We introduce `timeFrom()` to assist in calculating time-based offsets. The function calculates a timestamp using a negative (into the past) or positive (into the future) offset from the current bar's starting or closing time, or from the current time of day. The offset can be expressed in units of chart timeframe, or in seconds, minutes, hours, days, months or years. This function was ported from our Time Offset Calculation Framework . `formattedNoOfPeriods()` and `secondsToTfString()` Our final two offerings aim to confront two remaining issues: How much time is represented in a given timestamp? How can I produce a "simple string" timeframe usable with request.security() from a timeframe expressed in seconds? `formattedNoOfPeriods()` converts a time value in ​ms to a quantity of time units. This is useful for calculating a difference in time between 2 points and converting to a desired number of units of time. If no unit is supplied, the function automatically chooses a unit based on a predetermined time step. `secondsToTfString()` converts an input time in seconds to a target timeframe string in timeframe.period string format. This is useful for implementing stepped timeframes relative to the chart time, or calculating multiples of a given chart timeframe. Results from this function are in simple form, which means they are useable as `timeframe` arguments in functions like request.security() . █   NOTES Although the example code is commented in detail, the size of the library justifies some further explanation as many concepts are demonstrated. Key points are as follows:  • ​Pivot points are used to draw lines from. `timeFrom( )` calculates the length of the lines in the specified unit of time.   By default the script uses 20 units of the charts timeframe. Example: a 1hr chart has arrows 20 hours in length.  • At the point of the arrows `formattedNoOfPeriods()` calculates the line length in the specified unit of time from the input menu.   If “Use Input Time” is disabled, a unit of time is automatically assigned.  • At each ​pivot point a label with a formatted date or time is placed with one of the three formatting helper functions to display the time or date the ​pivot occurred.  • A label on the last bar showcases `secondsSince()` . The label goes through three stages of detection for a timed alert.   If the difference between the high and the open in ticks exceeds the input value, a timer starts and will turn the label red once the input time is exceeded to simulate a time-delayed alert.  • In the bottom right of the screen `secondsToTfString()` posts the chart timeframe in a table. This can be multiplied from the input menu. █   FUNCTIONS formattedTime(timeInMs, format)   Converts a UNIX timestamp (in milliseconds) to a formatted time string.   Parameters:      timeInMs : (series float) Timestamp to be formatted.      format : (series string) Format for the time. Optional. The default value is "HH:mm:ss".   Returns: (string) A string containing the formatted time. formattedDate(timeInMs, format)   Converts a UNIX timestamp (in milliseconds) to a formatted date string.   Parameters:      timeInMs : (series float) Timestamp to be formatted.      format : (series string) Format for the date. Optional. The default value is "yyyy-MM-dd".   Returns: (string) A string containing the formatted date. formattedDay(timeInMs, format)   Converts a UNIX timestamp (in milliseconds) to the name of the day of the week.   Parameters:      timeInMs : (series float) Timestamp to be formatted.      format : (series string) Format for the day of the week. Optional. The default value is "EEEE" (complete day name).   Returns: (string) A string containing the day of the week. secondsSince(cond, resetCond)   The duration in milliseconds that a condition has been true.   Parameters:      cond : (series bool) Condition to time.      resetCond : (series bool) When `true`, the duration resets.   Returns: The duration in seconds for which `cond` is continuously true. timeFrom(from, qty, units)   Calculates a +/- time offset in variable units from the current bar's time or from the current time.   Parameters:      from : (series string) Starting time from where the offset is calculated: "bar" to start from the bar's starting time, "close" to start from the bar's closing time, "now" to start from the current time.      qty : (series int) The +/- qty of units of offset required. A "series float" can be used but it will be cast to a "series int".      units : (series string) String containing one of the seven allowed time units: "chart" (chart's timeframe), "seconds", "minutes", "hours", "days", "months", "years".   Returns: (int) The resultant time offset `from` the `qty` of time in the specified `units`. formattedNoOfPeriods(​ms, unit)   Converts a time value in ​ms to a quantity of time units.   Parameters:      ms : (series int) Value of time to be formatted.      unit : (series string) The target unit of time measurement. Options are "seconds", "minutes", "hours", "days", "weeks", "months". Relative Bandwidth FilterThis is a very simple script which can be used as measure to define your trading zones based on volatility. Concept This script tries to identify the area of low and high volatility based on comparison between Bandwidth of higher length and ATR of lower length. Relative Bandwidth = Bandwidth / ATR Bandwidth can be based on either Bollinger Band, Keltner Channel or Donchian Channel. Length of the bandwidth need to be ideally higher. ATR is calculated using built in ATR method and ATR length need to be ideally lower than that used for calculating Bandwidth. Once we got Relative Bandwidth, the next step is to apply Bollinger Band on this to measure how relatively high/low this value is. Overall - If relative bandwidth is higher, then volatility is comparatively low. If relative bandwidth is lower, then volatility is comparatively high. Usage This can be used with your own strategy to filter out your non-trading zones based on volatility. Script plots a variable called "Signal" - which is not shown on chart pane. But, it is available in the data window. This can be used in another script as external input and apply logic. Signal values can be 1 : Allow only Long -1 : Allow only short 0 : Do not allow any trades 2 : Allow both Long and Short

Breakout Probability (Expo)█ Overview Breakout Probability is a valuable indicator that calculates the probability of a new high or low and displays it as a level with its percentage. The probability of a new high and low is backtested, and the results are shown in a table— a simple way to understand the next candle's likelihood of a new high or low. In addition, the indicator displays an additional four levels above and under the candle with the probability of hitting these levels. The indicator helps traders to understand the likelihood of the next candle's direction, which can be used to set your trading bias. █ Calculations The algorithm calculates all the green and red candles separately depending on whether the previous candle was red or green and assigns scores if one or more lines were reached. The algorithm then calculates how many candles reached those levels in history and displays it as a percentage value on each line. █ Example In this example, the previous candlestick was green; we can see that a new high has been hit 72.82% of the time and the low only 28.29%. In this case, a new high was made. █ Settings Percentage Step The space between the levels can be adjusted with a percentage step. 1% means that each level is located 1% above/under the previous one. Disable 0.00% values If a level got a 0% likelihood of being hit, the level is not displayed as default. Enable the option if you want to see all levels regardless of their values. Number of Lines Set the number of levels you want to display. Show Statistic Panel Enable this option if you want to display the backtest statistics for that a new high or low is made. (Only if the first levels have been reached or not) █ Any Alert function call An alert is sent on candle open, and you can select what should be included in the alert. You can enable the following options: Ticker ID Bias Probability percentage The first level high and low price █ How to use This indicator is a perfect tool for anyone that wants to understand the probability of a breakout and the likelihood that set levels are hit. The indicator can be used for setting a stop loss based on where the price is most likely not to reach. The indicator can help traders to set their bias based on probability.
